Adam Pendleton: Blackness, White and Light
Five angular pavilions housing the artist’s video works create a labyrinthine spaces at the Vienna modern art museum.
Our exhibition design is centered around three triangular pavilions and two rectangular alcoves that house Pendleton’s art and video works. The pavilions and the angular sightlines in the main gallery were developed in relation to the geometric formal elements in Pendleton’s paintings. Coated in black paint, the distinct volumes are constructed from simple framing and contrast with the white walls of the gallery space. As a way to create a freestanding object within the space, the volumes were intentionally designed to hover just below the ceiling height.
