Underhill Avenue
Brownstone

Color clashes and pop art themes energize a historic brownstone for a family of five (dogs included).

The house was reorganized to allow for a garden level rental and an owners’ triplex suitable for the owners’ growing family. Focus was on the preservation of historic details, including stained glass window transoms and decorative wood columns that were rebuilt to match neighboring houses, along with a historic bay window on the rear of the building that was restored with new glass doors to open onto a spacious new deck.

Purple and blue is an unexpected color combination that can clash if used in an intense way. When embraced, as seen in this example by Frederick Tang Architecture, the effect is vibrant.
